How I lost 30 pounds in 4 months and YOU can Too!!

By Martina Tomić

Did you know that by the age of 45 women have tried 61 diets in order to lose weight?

Research has also shown that almost 60% of parents had been asked by their children not to give them bread, potatoes or fruits because ‘they cause weight gain’. If you’re struggling with weight loss and need some motivation to loose your extra weight like I did, keep on reading.

These are some of the steps that I took in my weight loss journey. I hope they help you too!mmm

First of all, you need a VISION and MOTIVATION.

It’s a killer combo for improving your mental health and it helps you push through the toughest times. Set for yourself a vision of how you’d like to look – fit, muscular, slim…Then to work towards that vision, you need motivation. What is it that’s going to motivate you to wake up each day looking forward to your workout? Is it a new shirt or new yoga mat? I made myself a ‘Motivation wall’ – a bunch of inspirational photos and I set it up right in front of my bed, so when I wake up and look at my motivation wall, I am immediately ready to start my day!weight loss motivation board

Next you need to set yourself a REALISTIC GOAL.

Don’t expect to lose 20 pounds in a month, because it’s not healthy and it just doesn’t work that way. Let’s put it like this: you probably didn’t gain 20 pounds in a month, it was slowly piling up over the years. That’s the same way weight loss happens, slowly over time. Although it doesn’t have to take you years to lose 20 pounds!   If you are fully committing yourself to your weight loss journey you can anticipate to lose about 8-9 pounds a month, anything more than that is extreme and not healthy. There are many calculators online that help you calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) so you know exactly how many calories you should eat and burn to achieve your goals.  mmml

Now that you’ve set your goal, the first thing you should do RIGHT NOW is go to your kitchen and throw out all the sweets, white flour, sugar, and junk food out of you cabinets. Fill them with some basic ingredients like whole-wheat flour, almond flour, honey or agave, stevia and of course fresh fruits and vegetables! This way you’ll get rid of all your temptations because you’ll no longer have any ‘bad’ foods to snack on. Whenever you feel like eating chocolate, reach for dark chocolate (min.70% cocoa).

The EASIEST WAY to lose weight is by SWAPPING junk foods for healthy foods. You’re also probably going to discover a new love for cooking, just like I did 😉

Almost any junk food can be made healthy. Here are some examples; to make a healthier pizza, make a cauliflower crust (it’s actually really delicious!) or any healthy, nutrient dense flour crust  like whole-wheat, almond, or coconut flour! A favorite breakfast dish – French toast – can be made with less fat by cooking it in fat free margarine and using egg whites instead of whole eggs for the dip! For dessert, nothing beats a delicious New York-style cheesecake I’ll include the healthy recipe that I like to use at the end of the post.sdf

Now that we’ve covered up your diet (which by the way makes up 80% of your weight loss) let’s talk about other 20%-EXERCISE. 4 years ago, before I lost weight, I used to roll my eyes whenever someone told me to exercise. The key point is that you have to FIND SOMETHING YOU LIKE! I never liked running, but funny enough I rather liked jumping in place, or doing slow-motion exercises like Pilates and weight lifting. If right now you’re not sure what is it that you enjoy doing, then you should try different types of sports and see which one suits you the best. If you’re a dynamic person, you’ll probably like boxing or tae-kwan-do. Find something that gets you motivated and stick to it. Why bother running for 10 miles to lose weight if you’re not going to enjoy it?

When I first started my journey, I bought a workout DVD that had a 25 minute lon
g video for targeting ‘problematic areas’. I did that video for 4 months and with a healthier diet I lost 30 pounds! So you don’t need to push yourself too hard. If you’re a beginner, don’t jump into something extreme like Insanity P90X.
Take baby steps, after all you do know that the slow and steady turtle wins, right? 🙂mmk

Finally, to sum it up all, I would advise you to do EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. Losing weight is important and healthy, but don’t let it take over your whole life. Don’t stres too much about food, just make sure to eat foods that come in their natural form and don’t buy products that have more than 5 ingredients listed. One more important tip-if your food has some E269354812…numbers listed that you don’t know – DON’T EAT IT! It’s made in labs using chemistry and why would you even give your body something it can’t digest?
