TrainStation’s #TSTheUnit Launch!

I got a chance to try out TrainStation‘s newest concept “The Unit” located right around the corner from their current location in Aschrafieh. It’s a 30 minute high intensity class that will get you pumped and sweaty! It’s a HIIT style class incorporating cardio, bodyweight moves, strength sets and even some balance moves! I went along with my sister-in-law (@beirutfitness on IG) which was a GOOD idea since we were able to motivate each other!

If you don’t know what HIIT stands for, I’ll explain it to you real quick! HIIT is “High Intentisy Interval Training”. When training with this HIIT, you go as hard as you can for a predetermined time, usually 30-45 second, and then you rest for 20-30 seconds. During your “On” time (when you’re doing work) you can be doing a cardio move, abs, suqats, jumping jacks, etc. You can switch it up each time or do the same move for the full circuit. Ideally you want to repeat this circuit for a total of 3-4 rounds which should take you about 3-5 minutes. If you have an app called the “Interval Timer” it’s easy to program this all in. If done properly this should TORCH any fat you have on your body and get your metabolism going like crazy!

Unless you’re a gym freak – you’ll probably need some extra motivation to make yourself want to do this, so I recommend convincing a friend to do it with you. Even easier is to attend a class, like at The Unit. That way you have a whole class of people to motivate you! If you really want to get the maximal benefit and do HIIT the correct way – you REALLY want to be going as hard as you can during the “On” time. So as you can imagine, having someone else regulate the timing and programming a workout for you, lets you focus on surviving those 30 minutes!!

The class at The Unit started with a warm up and a quick explanation of how the class works. Then we got right in to the first circuit which included 5 different moves. We did two circuits, 3 times each and by the end I was a sweaty and red-faced girl who was somehow still smiling! See the thing is, I HATE cardio…spending 30 minutes running sounds like the worst torture to me. So to have fun music, a group of people working hard around you, plus a trainer yelling at you to “YALLA“, really kept me motivated and didn’t feel at all like a traditional cardio session – even though my heart beat was going crazy!

If you haven’t already check out their Facebook page and try out their new class today (you don’t have to be a student at their main studio to join the class).
